How long have you been coming to Ahhh Sweet Balance?

I’ve been coming to ASB since the beginning. I had taken Chanelle’s Deep Stretch Yin Yoga in the past at another studio and I loved it! I fell asleep. 

Yoga is the only thing that has ever allowed me to focus and quiet my mind. I’ve never been able to do that.  The Yin yoga really brought me deeper and just made me feel really good. Especially during a time when I was really stressed out over work. So when you work 14 hours a day in a very competitive cut throat environment to have some place to go after, that is really a lifesaver. 

What is your favorite class?

The yin yoga is my favorite but I’m ready to take some more of the physically challenging classes and start pushing some boundaries. 

What are your 3 favorite poses

Reclined butterfly (Supta Baddha Konasana) - Especially when we add tennis balls under our hips.

Legs up in the air with a block under our hips (Viparita Karani)

The seated pose (Sukasana) at the end with our hands at our heart - I just think thank you so much

How do you feel when you leave here?

I think you guys say it best, I get yoga high! My voice drops and gets raspy.  My muscles are all undone. I just feel good and I think being in class and getting into the poses more now then I ever have, I feel better about my body and I think it’s such a positive thing because most of the time we’re told what’s wrong with ourselves and here is where you find everything good  with yourself. It feels amazing!

I remember one day in class we were lying on our backs with a block under our tail bone (viparita karani) I had my eyes open and was looking up at my legs and it was the first time I’ve ever thought - wow, my legs look really great from this angle hahaha! Ya, and just thanking my body for what it can do. I feel if you want to make changes to get healthier or whatever you have to be happy with yourself right now to be able to get to the next step and that was always a struggle for me and so this has been a stepping stone. It really helps you get to the next place. 

What do you think about the ASB community?

The people who come here are so interesting. I had the worst week ever this past week and when I came to the studio, Mish ( ASB’s super studio host) gave me a big hug. She was so happy and told me how great her practice was and how mine was going to be awesome too! She totally changed my day. So you think that you’re alone and when you actually start talking to people and connecting with people in class you realize that everyone here is working on healing something.

Do you feel like yoga has affected your relationship and how you are in it?

Ya well so I have a therapist, who also comes here and I think those 2 things together are so complimentary. I started therapy at the same time I started coming here. At that time I thought I was going to need to be commited. I was at the end of my rope, at the edge of a nervous break down. I quit my job, started theray and started coming here. I was unemployed for 6 months and really focused on what I wanted and I feel like I’m a different person now.  I’m a better person. A better friend and just so much more comfortable in my skin between both things. 

What’s been your biggest transformation since coming to ASB?

Ahhh, everything! My mental clarity. My ability to take care of myself. My eating habits. Water drinking habits. I’ve even started bringing it home with me. I have yoga props now and make sure I release my tension. I’m just really taking better care of myself.
