Meet Geri & Bella :) 

Why did you start practicing yoga?

In 2014 I was diagnosed with breast cancer and I had a mastectomy. I did not have chemo or radiation, as they caught it in the early stages. So, I decided at that point that I needed to do something for myself. Something healthy but I wasn’t a person for exercise. So, I decided after getting the cancer that I really needed to do something good for myself. 

I started to get into eating healthy foods. Then I started reading how yoga increases bone density and helps your joints. The medication that I’m on for the next 5 years from the cancer causes a decrease in all of that so, I decided to try yoga. 

What was the first class you took here at Ahhh Sweet Balance?

When I came to Ahhh Sweet Balance, I started with the Beginner Yoga class and I was very stiff. I wasn’t able to do a lot of the moves but after the first class I felt great! Then I started coming more and more and now I’m at 5 classes per week. I do a couple yoga classes, barre and the other class variations. I just love it!  I really love coming here. 

What was your biggest fear in getting started?

Well, I thought that everyone else would be able to move more than I could and that I’d be looking around thinking, ‘oh my gosh, I can’t do that’ but then I began to realize that yoga is an individual practice and you just do what you’re capable of doing. Nobody is going to criticize you if you’re not doing what they’re doing. So I got over that fear pretty quickly. 

How long have you been coming to Ahhh Sweet Balance?

I’ve been coming since the beginning. (May will be 2 years)

Have you experienced any transformations or changes with yourself?

Yes, I would say my whole self. Spiritually, emotionally, physically, my whole being has been transformed. I feel like I can deal with stress better. Physically I feel so much better. I don’t have joint pain and I just feel really, really so good about myself. 

What’s your favorite class here at ASB? 

Oh goodness, that’s a hard one. Well I’m really enjoying the Barre ( look for Balanced Body on our schedule) it’s very challenging. Then Kate teaches the Gentle Yoga stretch after and it’s such a great combination. I feel so relaxed after. So that has to be my favorite but I really enjoy everything and I love the variety. 

How would you describe ASB to someone?

One word, FAMILY! I’ve thought about this a lot and when people ask what ASB is like, I really feel like it’s a family. Everyone here is like a family member. I’ve met a lot of really nice people and it’s such a great group. What I also love is that everyone here has one motive in mind and that’s to be healthy. Everyone comes with that purpose. They want to do something good for themselves. So family is my big thing!

Would you introduce this little cutie?

This is Bella and she’s 5 years old. When I was going through cancer I had the love and support of my family and my Bella, she was there right by my side. She’s my company <3
